Grand Summary
Teamwork today is increasingly difficult due to distance, diversity, digital contact, and changing membership. To create a successful team, four enabling factors must be established: rewards, information, education, and physical resources. Building a common mentality among team members is key to success.
Communication affects teamwork in both positive and negative ways. To enhance teamwork, it is important for everyone to acquire effective communication techniques. Team Bonding's guide to successful team communication provides 3 suggestions for encouraging effective team collaboration: be mindful of messaging, maintain focus, use the right phrases, and speak clearly. Practice these strategies to ensure effective communication. Teams are connected by communication, so it is important to practice it if you want to function effectively.
Effective communication at work can help avoid misunderstandings, improve team morale, foster collaboration, and build confidence. It can take place in person, in writing, via video conferencing, or during a group gathering. There are four fundamental principles to follow: be clear, prevent strife, highlight obstacles, and improve upon where you are at the moment. Having a single point of reality for all of your communications and work-related material is the final element of clear communication.
The four main communication styles are passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive, and assertive. Passive communication styles are uncomfortable expressing their true feelings, while assertive communication styles stand up for themselves and use hand gestures and calm or happy facial expressions. Procedures and assistance systems should be put in place to ensure team members feel free to be themselves and advocate for their own needs.
Models of teamwork can help leaders understand the factors that contribute to a productive, cohesive group. These models include the forming-storming-norming-performing-adjourning (FSNPA) model, the Lencioni Model, the GRPI Model, and the Katzenbach and Smith Model. The T7 Model, LaFasto and Larson Model, and Hackman Model all help to identify the components and behaviors that make up a great team. These frameworks can be used to navigate the way towards peak performance, whether creating a new team or trying to support the one you are already included in.
